CAA Women's Lacrosse Weekly Awards - March 14

RICHMOND, Va. (March 14, 2022) – Towson senior Kerri Thornton, Hofstra senior Jess Smith, Towson freshman Halley Koras, and Delaware freshman Delaney McDaniel have been selected as the Colonial Athletic Association weekly award winners for women’s lacrosse.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kerri Thornton, Towson
Senior | Attack | Stony Brook, N.Y. / Ward Melville
Thornton recorded career-best totals in goals (5), assists (2), and points (7) to help lead Towson to a road victory at UMBC on Wednesday. The senior from Long Island added seven draw controls – one off her career high – as the Tigers earned their second-straight victory while scoring 39 goals over their last two games.
 
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jess Smith, Hofstra
Senior | Goalie | West Babylon, N.Y. / West Babylon
Smith continued her strong start to 2022 with a .611 save percentage and 7.00 goals-against average in wins over Wagner and Marist. The senior from Long Island made nine saves and held Wagner to six goals in a Tuesday victory before notching 13 saves and limiting Marist to eight goals in a Friday win in Poughkeepsie.
 
CO-ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Halley Koras, Towson
Freshman | Attack | Lutherville, Md. / Notre Dame Prep

Koras tallied a career-high five goals in Towson’s win at UMBC, scoring three times in the opening 6:18 of the contest. The freshman from Maryland scored her five goals on just six shots as Towson won its second-straight game behind an offensive outburst of 19 or more goals.
 
CO-ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Delaney McDaniel, Delaware
Freshman | Attack | Severna Park, Md. / Archbishop Spalding
McDaniel had a career-high four assists and matched her career best in points with five as Delaware knocked off No. 18 Temple on Friday night in Philadelphia. McDaniel assisted on the game-tying and game-winning goals late in the fourth quarter of the Blue Hens’ comeback win. The freshman from Maryland added two assists earlier in the week against Army.
