Ted Ligety Announces Participation In World Pro Ski Tour

Ted Ligety

Two-time Olympic gold medalist, Ted Ligety, announces his plan to participate in the 2019-2020 season of the World Pro Ski Tour (WPST). This marks another significant step in the resurgence of the WPST with the addition of today’s most decorated giant slalom athlete joining the Tour. After achieving many milestones in his ski racing career, Ligety will look to add the World Pro Ski Tour to his accolades while he actively competes on the World Cup circuit.

“It’s great to see how the World Pro Ski Tour has created an awesome alternative and supplement to traditional World Cup racing,” says Ted Ligety. “I’m looking forward to joining the WPST this season between World Cups.”

In addition to his Olympic gold medals, Ligety is the only skier in history to hold three back-to-back World Championship titles in giant slalom, and one of the few racers with podium finishes in all five World Cup disciplines. Competing on the WPST, he will join the likes of other all-time greats, including Billy Kidd, Jean-Claude Killy, Spider Sabich, Phil Mahre and more. This gives Ligety the opportunity to seal his legacy with wins in all giant slalom race formats.

“We are incredibly excited to have Ted Ligety as a part of the Tour this year,” says WPST CEO, Jon Franklin. “He will meet some stiff competition at the WPST, and we are excited to see what he can do.”

WPST competition begins in December in Vail, Colorado, and features many Olympians, World Cup athletes and NCAA All-Americans. Reigning WPST Champion is World Championships parallel silver medalist and two-time Olympian, Phil Brown, of Canada.
