Red Raiders Have Eyes On A National Title

For the second straight year, Texas Tech began the year as the popular choice to win the Big 12 Conference, receiving 61 points and six first place selections in a vote by conference coaches.

Better still, the Red Raiders began the year ranked third in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association preseason poll—its highest position in program history.

Head coach Tim Tadlock returns letterwinners from last season’s 45-win team that returned to the College World Series for the third time in five seasons. The squad is led by Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year Josh Jung, Big 12 Preseason Newcomer of the Year Bryce Bonnin and Big 12 Freshman of the Year Max Marusak.

Tech enters the weekend at 6-1 and winners of six straight after dropping its season-opener to Oregon.

Mangum-Led Dawgs Are Among The Nation’s Best

For the fourth time, Mississippi State began the season ranked in the NCBWA Top 15—eight months after another run to the College World Series.

The Bulldogs return a talented veteran group headlined by preseason All-American outfielder Jake Mangum, who finds himself on the Golden Spikes Award Watch List to begin the year—and for good reason.

The Pearl, Miss., native has put up some eye-popping numbers during his time in Starkville.

For his career, Mangum has reached base in 159 of 176 games he’s started and is the the NCAA’s active career leader in hits with 275. His .356 batting average ranks fourth among returners with at least 400 at-bats.

The Frisco Classic Is A Premier College Baseball Showcase

In its third season, the Frisco Classic has quickly become one of the crown jewels of the early college baseball slate, matching an enviable combination of elite programs and enthusiastic fans.

Despite less than ideal weather, the inaugural event held in 2017 saw more than 20,000 folks pass through the gates over the course of two days to take in the event. A year later, Texas A&M and Baylor drew a sellout crowd of 10,254.

It’s no wonder the Frisco Classic has been dubbed #BestOutsideOfOmaha.
