Paige Bueckers announced her decision to return to UConn for another season following her senior night against Georgetown on Feb 16.  Her announcement was highly anticipated as the regular season comes to an end and teams begin to prepare for the postseason.

Prior to her decision, Bueckers was the projected 3rd pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft across multiple draft boards. She was forecasted as high as No. 2 in December.

The decision for Bueckers to return was not only sentimental, as she was thankful for the support of her team and UConn throughout her ACL injury process during the 2022-23 season; Returning to UConn also is a viable financial decision considering how much she can earn in NIL contracts. For perspective, Bueckers has an estimated $643,000 valuation which is double that of the highest WNBA player contract.

With Bueckers being the first of WNBA lottery picks to publicly announce whether she would pursue the WNBA or return to college for next season, speculation has now begun for other potential lottery picks' decisions.

This year's biggest names in NCAA Women’s Basketball such as Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, and Cameron Brink are all projected top 10 picks in the 2024 WNBA Draft. What these women also have in common is the option to return to college for the 2024-2025 season, thanks to the 2021 COVID eligibility rule. These athletes are some of the biggest faces in college basketball allowing them to take full advantage of NIL to their full benefit.

With partnerships and deals with brands such as Nike, Reebok, Gatorade and more, the decision to return to school vs. pursuing the WNBA with a smaller market cap becomes increasingly more complex.

Here’s a look at the biggest names in NCAA Women’s Basketball and how their decisions could Change the 2024 WNBA Draft.
